Tips for a successful repair & re-coat
KEEP EPOXY at 70 degrees F.
MIX A & B COMPONENTS TOGETHER
THOUROUGHLY BEFORE APPLYING OR EPOXY WILL NOT DRY!
Tools Needed: 2" paint brushes, 3/8" rollers, roller stick,
roller cage, 5-gallon bucket, paint grate, gloves, eye protection, hand
cleaner, rags, dry sand, stir stick, hammer, dry play sand, 3" x 6"
cement trowel, spray bottle of water.
ALWAYS WEAR SAFTEY GLASSES AND WEAR CHEMICAL RESISTANT GLOVES
WHEN HANDELING EPOXY. ALWAYS DISPOSE OF ALL WASTE PROPERLY AND IN
ACORDANCE WITH STATE AND LOCAL REGULATIONS.
Make sure surface has been thoroughly cleaned or dirt will
permanently be sealed in stone! Use either a carpet cleaning
machine or a power washer with a detergent, like simple green, and
scrub briskly using a push broom or scrub brush. Rinse well.
Area must be completely dry! Let garages and patios dry for at
least 48-hours before re-coating. Do not re-coat over dew, or
if there is a chance of rain, or if the temperature is below 60 F.
Always clean off area with a leaf blower immediately prior to
re-coating.
Patch any small cracks by pouring a like color sand in crack. Be
sure to blow off any excess sand. Larger cracks may require gently
tapping some stones into the crack, (with a hammer), in order to
fill crack. Once this is complete, mix up ONE cup (A) to ONE HALF
cup (B). Mix with a stir stick for 1 minute and then lightly
trickle mixed epoxy over cracks. Let set for 24 hours then proceed
with re-coat.
Larger areas in need of repair will have to be chiseled out
(square cut all edges). Vacuum loose debris. Prime area with small
amount of mixed epoxy, then mix some stone and epoxy together.
Smooth in using a clean 3"x 6" cement trowel, blending the edges in
carefully. Add or remove stones as necessary. Use a spray bottle of
water to wet trowel in order to finish smooth. Let dry for 24 hours.
If you need to apply stones vertically, thicken the mixed
epoxy with talcum powder until a peanut butter like consistency is
achieved. Smear some of the thickened epoxy onto the vertical
surface and blend some with the stone until it is thick enough to
hold the stone vertically. Apply with a small trowel or putty knife.
RE-COATING
Mix up ONE cup (A) to ONE HALF cup (B) for 1 minute and use
a paint brush to cut into any tight areas that a roller may not be
able to reach, such as corners and/or edges.
Mix ONE HALF gallon of (A) to ONE QUARTER gallon of (B) in a
5-gallon bucket. Mix with stir stick for 2 minutes and then dip a
3/8" nap paint roller into bucket. Roll off excess epoxy on a paint
grate (hangs in bucket). This will ensure an even coat of epoxy.
Roll with even passes making sure to overlap by 1 or 2 inches.
NEVER MIX MORE THAN ONE HALF GALLON OF (A) TO ONE QUARTER GALLON OF (B) AT ONE
TIME. THE EPOXY WILL HEAT UP AND RUIN YOUR JOB and NEVER USE
EPOXY THAT IS WARM OR SMOKING.
Once re-coating is complete you can sprinkle a very small amount
of dry sand, on top, for a non-skid finish.
Let area dry completely for 24 hours before allowing any foot
traffic.
